☆☆☆☆☆ Quality Work & Top prices

                ☆OUR MISSION☆
Over the past 25 years, we have seen how important it was to provide Ohio & the Tri-State area with a Forestry Management Company to handle all of their forestry goals & desires, without having to seek numerous companies & lose valuable money spent on second hand forestry companies, or being overwhelmed reading numerous post online, leaving timberland owners confused & frustrated. Often times just giving up on the idea entirely. This unfortunately leads to timberlots to become stagnant with very little growth leading to over crowded timberlots or the canopies get so wide that they block off much needed sunlight to the forest floor, not allowing future stock to grow. This also takes away vital habitat for wildlife often time they will move to other properties with better suited habitats.

      ☆ PROPERLY MARKING☆
A properly marked timberlot can be harvested every 5 to 7 years without hurting the integrity of the woods. We have become known for our timber marking & management techniques that help promote a healthier timberlot & enhances peak annual growth this technique is called "Silviculture". We so often see timberlots not marked properly. Losing valuable future crops & prematurely harvesting timber that is not reached proper diameter to meet sawmills specific criteria for grade lumber wich often causes landowners to lose an exceptional amount of money in the end. This is why it so important to have a qualified forestry agent to properly mark you timberlot.

       â˜†SILVICULTURE SPECIALIST☆
Our forestry team continuously trains to learn new methods & stay up to date with "BMP" standards & staying current with log & lumber markets. up to date with the newest & best low impact harvesting techniques, while training & studying to discover new method foresters study Silviculture" this is the art of science to enhance a timberlot, to grow at a faster rate while achieving a higher veneerable grade of timber." We do this on our 220 acre, tree farm in North East ,Ohio. This has allowed us to perfect our silviculture harvesting techniques, allowing us to help our clients grow their timber faster meaning they are able to harvest more often, this has can be a great source of income that our clients have learned they can look forward to.

         â˜† QUALITY STANDARDS ☆
We do 100% of our cutting & harvesting of all of our timber. Unlike 90 % of other companies that sub contract the cutting & skidding of their timber, paying their crews by the 1000 board ft. Unfortunately this leads to excessive damage & rushed work. This is why we do all of our own cutting & harvesting. We feel that this is the only way to ensure our clients to receive services to our high over & above standards. We always treat our clients property & land as if it were our own, taking the proper time to needed to directionally fell marked timber & to prep the site marking all skid trails to be used to help little damage to valuable future crops. We often top tree's with wide tops that do not have room to be felled properly, & all jobs are done to "BMP" standards, grading all skid trails, putting in water bars on hills or grades & seeding all trails & staging areas.
These are just a few of the benefits you can look forward to receiving from our company. We can help you turn your timberlot into a working forest that can help bring you valuable economical support while helping keep Ohio's timberlands healthier & thriving for generations to come.

PROPER TIMBER MANAGEMENT

A PROPERLY MARKED TIMBERLOT CAN BE HARVEST EVERY 5-7 YEARS.

☆Properly marking a timberlot is very important. We often see timberlots that have been marked by foresters or timber companies prior to our assessment.

We often times find they have over marked the timberlot, either from lack of knowledge or experience in proper forestry management, or they dont share our same marking ethics & are trying to get a bigger paycheck.

This is one of the main reasons why our forestry team has been so dedicated to helping clients understand the proper way that a woods should be marked.

We understand every client & situation is different with different forestry goals & desires. We feel its important for clients to understand by over marking, it can not only set the timberlot back sometimes decades, but it also can possibly take away thousands of dollars of possible future crops.

For most tree species there are very specific criteria & diameter logs, that mills are looking for that can actually produce FAS, lumber & other high end lumber grades that wood hobbyists & carpenters will pay a premium for.

Often times the over marked tree's are in the premature stages and possibly the 1st log in the tree can make the higher end criteria to make grade lumber, however the rest of the tree will be under the desired diameters in most hardwood species grade lumber can be sawn from a log 14" on the small end or the upper end of the log. This makes the 1st log valuable but the rest will most likely be blocking or cribbing wood wich does not pay near what a grade log would.

It takes a tree 50 -70% for most tree species early years of its life cycle to reach the proper girth, where it can start to rapidly increase in diameter at this stage we can typically see a growth rate of 1/2" in circumference per year give or take how wet or dry the year was.

This means that if the timberlot was properly marked & harvested leaving the premature tree's, allowing the added sunlight & nutrients to help them grow they would grow not only faster but if they grew 1/2" in circumference they could be at grade log diameter within just a few short years. Possibly doubling or tripling their value.

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆     Our foresters can help turn your timberlot into a working forest that can be a valuable source of income, as well as keeping the timberlot healthy & new future crops growing at maximum annual growth.

                                               SELECTIVE HARVESTING

ARE CLIENT PROPERTY & LAND ARE OUR #1 PRIORITY.

☆Select Harvesting - Is the harvesting & timber cutting of hand selected tree's by either the client or through the guidance of a Forestry Management Specialist. These are generally mature tree's meeting specific diameters that mills can saw grade lumber out of. These specific diameters of tree's will command higher prices & are more desirable. However it is very important to understand as in all things that are living ,tree's as well have a life span & it is very important to harvest tree's before they become over mature, & pass their prime.

☆Over mature timber- Is timber that get to large & often have ver wide canopies the block out vital sunlight that is much needed for saplings & future crops to become established. It is also a misconception that the bigger a tree is the better & more money it will bring. Often times timber buyers are very leery of such timber. A known phrase in our industry is " big tree's! Big problems"! These trees are often so old that throughout its life span have endured harsh elements & have a higher potential to be hollow, have wind shake, insect's or numerous other possible issues that are very hard to see from the exterior of a tree.

These trees are also more time & work intensive to properly cut without excessive damage because of their wide canopies, costing a timber company much more to do these type of jobs. This Is why it's very important to harvest at the proper time.

☆Valley View Logging- Prefers to use select harvesting methods for numerous reasons, our goal is to cultivate a good working relationship with each client, that will facilitate timber harvests now & in the future, so by only selecting trees that are truly mature and ready for harvest a client could look to reharvest every 5-7 years without hurting the overall integrity of a woods.

Select harvesting has many benefits, proper forest management will open up the canopy of a woods allowing smaller, less mature trees to fill out and add considerable width, allowing these small trees to exponentially increase in volume over the years following a harvest.

Properly managed, a stand of timber can be harvested again and again without negatively impacting its health. Thinning a forest in this manner actually improves the rate of growth and carbon sequestration potential of the stand. This also helps provide important vital habitat for Wildlife Conservation.

These are just a few of the reasons forestry management is so vital to keeping Ohio's timberlands thriving for  marking a timberlot is very important.

       â˜†STEPS TO GET STARTED☆

1. FREE CONSULTATION- Schedule an appt. We come to your property and sit down with you to discuss your goals and desires.

2. WALK THOROUGH- This is where we walk through to understand the lay of the land finding property lines and assessing the timbers quality and any issues ,diseases, insect infestations so we know how to better guide our clients to achieve their goals.

3. MANAGEMENT PLAN- We sit down and explain what we had seen on the wall through. We then work with landowners and help guide them in what tree's would be best to harvest to achieve their goals.

4. TIMBER MARKING AND SCALING- This is where we walk through the wood lot and paint " We prefer to number them" this way landowners know exactly what tree's are to be harvested and that have are appraising. Also when we number If a landowner changes their mind on a tree that was marked to harvest they can tell us the number and we can quickly look at our timber tally and refigure the bid by deducting that number and what it was appraised at in timely manner.

5. THE BID- We give the landowner a written statement of the number of tree's and the total lump sum we will pay for the said marked tree's.

6. SIGNING CONTRACT- One of our foresters will bring a contract over ,it shall state how many tree's will be harvested, the color of paint that was used, the description of the area , the amount we will be paying, the cut off date work must be completed by, our contracts state we log mindfully,  safely, and no excessive damages to residual tree's or your land, and that we will smooth all roads, decking areas and properly taking care of said areas, at this time we will then show a copy of our insurance, on the bottom paragraph  of our contract is a section headed -SPECIAL PROVISIONS:

we advise all clients to always write anything extra they would like done or concerns no matter how small. We want our clients to feel at ease and enjoy dealing with a professional and experienced company and repeatedly use us through years.

7. HARVESTING-We set up a start date "weather permitting" All moneys will be paid in full at this time.

VENEER AND EXPORT SPECIALIST

VENEER SPECIALIST

We take great pride in our extensive knowledge & Veneer markets! We have worked aside some of the most talented veneer & export markets Domestically & abroad.
A veneer log is a 4 side clear log that is perfect in every way and almost looks like it was made in a factory, it must be straight with its heartwood on center, with tight circular growth rings & the wood inside would have good color with clear clean wood. A " 4 side clear log would have no bumps, blemishes, branches, or anything that would indicate an imperfection in the lumber.
Learning these markets inside & out we are 1 of a very small portion of timbering companies that truly understand what lengths, diameters that will command those most prestigious prices & make a log the most desirable to the most companies. Knowing exactly what veneer buyers are wanting & needing is crucial to the outcome of what of a quality hardwood lot can gross.

Each veneer hardwood species have very specific criteria, lengths, diameters that each veneer companies are searching for. Cutting logs into the proper lengths is very important.
We often buy logs from other timber companies & often see "miss cuts " logs cut into the wrong lengths, in the end costing them & the landowners valuable money they could have received if they were properly cut.
With our vast expertise in these high end markets we can provide our clients a premium for cutting  logs into proper lengths & properly preparing them.

UNDERSTANDING LOG GRADES

KNOWING HOW & WHERE TO CUT A LOG IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS OF ANY TIMBER HARVEST JOB.

Log grades can be a long overwhelming discussion but to give a basic general explanation. A log has 4-sides to it, a mill will saw a thin slab off of each side rotating it till it has 4- flat sides ready to be sawn into lumber.A log grader looks at all 4-sides before determining its grade often times rolling the log is the only way to properly see each side. He will the measure the small end of the log. Grade lumber starts at 14" in most species.

A #1 is a log that has one side with something on it a cut limb, catface, bump or blemish that will go into the log internally and affect the grade of lumber that can be sawn.

A #2 is a log that has two sides with something on it. #1& 2's are the log grades that high end lumber can be sawn from that command a higher price, often used for carpentry work.

A #3 is a log with something on three sides. A #3 log grade is often sawn into rail road ties or timbers for framing. These grades are less desirable but still pay decent.

A #4 is blocking & has something on each face of the log. #4 log grade is blocking this is the grade that is low grade & sawn into cribbing & pallet wood. Blocking grade is normally a low paying log.

Most companies also have a #5  these are veneer logs that have 4 clear sides & are 14" or bigger on the small end of the log. Veneer is the highest paying grade & can pay astronomically higher than sawn lumber grades. For example a #1 walnut saw log can bring $3. Dollars a board ft.& a veneer walnut log can command $15 a board ft.

Over the years mills have learned exactly how much of each lumber grade can be sawn out of a number 1,2,3 & 4  Our company runs a test run in each species once a week to ensure we stay accurate & up to date with current & changing markets. This ensures that we are able to provide our clients with the most current & highest prices every time.

WHAT IS MY TIMBER WORTH?

QUALIFIED FORESTERS & TOP PRICES

We are often asked what is my timber worth?  There are a wide range of tree's that are very valuable while some tree's have very little at all. Most of this is decided by the species & the overall quality & size of a said tree. With markets fluctuating & changing constantly it is very important to sell timber while species  are up. Often times there maybe only 2 or 3 species that are truly high at 1 single time.We are constantly networking & staying up to date with with these changing markets to ensure we are able to always properly guide are client to be able to get them the most for their timber. We typically only cut species in their timberlots as they reach these peak markets.
Below we will list a basic guide to help better explain the basic explanation to determining a timberlots value.

  1. First, even though statewide or regional prices can provide a taste of the level and trends of prices, what your timber is worth is somewhat dependent on local market conditions. If your timber grows near a lot of mills, your timber might command a higher price than if the timber were far from mills or close to only one or two mills.

  2. Second, a timber stand's value is dependent on the species, sizes, and qualities of the trees growing in it. A large, top quality black walnut, for example, would command a significant price premium as a veneer log, while limby and crooked sweetgum might be priced as pulpwood.

  3. Third, the value of timber depends heavily on how much timber is sold in one timber sale and what kind of harvesting is done. Often, the larger the sale, the higher the price per unit of wood that can be offered. It can be more costly per unit of wood removed to cut only a few, selected trees, rather than cut most or all trees in the stand. The greater the harvest expense per tree, the less the harvester may be willing to pay for the trees.

  4. Fourth, what a timber buyer will pay for your trees depends on the conditions of the site in which they are growing, which affects how expensive it is to remove them and haul them to a mill. Variables such as distance from the stand to the nearest road, slope, soil wetness, and whether temporary bridges need to be built across streams all can affect operational costs of harvesters and hence what they might be willing to pay to harvest a stand of trees.

  5. Fifth and finally, state and local timber harvesting and management practices laws can affect what kind of harvesting equipment can be used, how close harvests can come to streams, and what contingencies must be made if there are local populations of vulnerable or legally protected plant or animal species in your area. All of those things can affect how much wood can be removed and the operational costs of harvesting. Higher costs translate into lower prices offered.

Our forestry team will give you a 1 time  free appraisal of your .
